This Business Group is involved in the manufacture and marketing of Electric
Motors covering - Fractional Horse Power Motors, LT Motors, HT Motors, DC
Machines, Stampings, Traction Motors & Alternators, Electrical Control
Panels for diesel electric locomotives and Railway Signaling Products.
The sales of this SBU have increased from Rs.554.79 crore in 2004-05 to Rs.667.67
crore in 2005-06, registering a growth of 20.4%. During this period, the
sales of LT Motors have shown a growth of 23.2%, over the previous year.
The company enjoys market leadership for AC Motors
and the second position in AC Generators and DC Motors. The products of this
business have received wide national as well as international product certifications
and acceptance by reputed consultants. The emphasis for this business group
has been the textile, sponge iron and large steel plants sectors,
which are growing customer segments.
With respect to HT Motors, the company enjoys second position
for this product . This group has secured breakthrough
orders for Traction Motors for 3,100 HP/3,300 HP High Adhesion Broad Gauge
Diesel Electric Locomotive and Re-Rolling Mill Motors frames 450 to 560 with
highest rating upto 2,000 HP.
The international certification for Flame Proof Gas
Group IIA and IIB Motors manufactured by this division will strengthen exports
to the European markets. Development of custom built motors for its OEM customer
base of air handling equipment has been the focus area of this division.
The Railway Signaling Division of the company is a market leader in the manufacture of Relays
and Point Machines. The focus has been on developing new export markets
for ‘Q’ type signalling Relays. The division has already started benefiting
from commercialization of the brushless DC technology, initially being implemented
for Railway Carriage Fans.
The Stampings Division has
upgraded its technology to the latest Fastec tooling to achieve cost competitiveness,
over the years. Apart from this, the division was able to absorb the impact
of the steep increase in steel prices, through firm MOU with raw material
suppliers.

The company has received quality approvals for AC motors from Japan Gas Corporation, a refinery leader and international consultant and commissioners and Bechtel, leading international consultants for power and refinery turnkey projects.
