Current limiting reactors are used to limit the magnitude of fault current within the capacity of the installed equipment. They are connected with the line or feeder to reduce the short circuit level.

Applications : 

• They can be used to limit the inrush currents during Capacitor switching, Motor starting, Transformer inrush currents 
• To limit fault currents in a network.
